This Blackburn Basic Trackstand trainer is a high-quality magnetic indoor bicycle trainer. It offers 3 levels of resistance for training variety and a quieter ride. The strong tubular steel frame provides stability and durability.

Conversation with my auto & home insurer |

I am insured with USAA. Last week I discussed my coverage with one their its representatives. She said that my bicycles are insured under my homeowners policy for damages or loss arising from intentional theft or a third party's negligence. She also said that the automobile policy provisions of Uninsured Motorist will cover my wife and I if injured because of the negligence of the driver of a vehicle. This coverage applies if we on on a bicycle as well as on foot or in a vehicle. PIP and medical payment provisions will cover us as well regardless of the vehicle's driver's negligence. I do not know if the terms of the USAA insurance policies are the same as your insurance company's, but it is worth checking out.

Hitting a cyclist results in a ticket? |

I read this post on another message board:
My friend (that lives on 69th and Collins) called me a little while after we left asking if it was someone in our group that had been hit. I cannot believe it was a hit and run.
Another friend (that I ride with during the week) was hit last Thursday by Bayside. When the driver of the car got out, her first response was "you idiot! look at what you did to my car!". He sat under a tree with a dislocated shoulder waiting for fire rescue while she sat in her car with the A/C on. She got a ticket but that's about it.
All you get hit with is a ticket?? I am wondering what you get for hitting a pedestrian? Does the driver have to pay to fix the bike? The cyclists medical bills?

Flat prevention |

Here's a great article from the guys at Road Bike Rider.com:
Prevent punctures before riding!
No one wants a flat tire. But sure as inner tubes contain air, they lose it sooner or later. You can help make it later by doing two things before leaving your driveway.
First, pump tires to proper pressure.
Uncle Al has ranted about this several times. He's concerned about comfort, bike handling and tire life, but proper pressure also prevents flats -- pinch flats (known as "snakebites").
These flats happen when you bang into something hard, such as a rock, lip of a pothole or railroad track. The sharp impact mashes the tire against the rim. The tube gets pinched, causing two small side-by-side holes that look like fang marks.
Prevent this type of flat by airing 700x23C tires to 90 psi front and 95 psi rear, slightly more if your tires are narrower or you're heavy.
Second, inspect the tread before every ride.
Most punctures don't happen instantaneously. Instead, something sharp sticks to the tread and works through to the tube during numerous wheel revolutions.
Find those bad boys before they do you in. Before riding, spin each wheel and hold your gloved palm against the tire. Watch for anything in the tread -- glass, gravel, a thorn tip, wire from a shredded truck tire. Pop it out with your fingernail or the corner of a small screwdriver blade.
Tip! Keep a pair of tweezers in your repair kit. They make it easy to pluck out the most stubborn sharp object. Always feel inside the tire to be certain it's completely removed.
Likewise, it's smart to spin the wheels and brush the tires after a rest stop -- especially if you rolled your bike across an unpaved area.
When servicing your bike in a repair stand, get close and use a flashlight to inspect each tire all the way around. You'll find shards in the tread and anything else that's a potential problem.
