TO A GREAT 2013 SEBRING SPRING BREAK WEEKEND GETAWAY!

Well another Tour of Sebring has drawn to a close, the weather gods smiled upon us once again and we were lucky enough to miss some threatened rain. An excellent turn out, and with the exception of Bill Detzner's altercation with an automobile on Sunday, again luckily no physical damage over scuffs and scrapes, (the rear wheel unfortunately sustained a little more), no mishaps recorded.

The BBQ was again well attended, and again no mishaps recorded, and speaking personally here, I hope non of the musical interlude, in which I participated also not recorded.

For their usual willingness to help in schlepping I would like to thank Barry, Burt and Eddy, 'greatly appreciated guys', and for their excellent help whilst on the road J.R. and George really helped keep the peloton together.

And for all the help and support without which I would be unable to even attempt organizing this event, a huge hug and grateful thanks to LaDi.

In the words of Roland Mazzotti "my condolences to those that missed a great week-end of fun and comradery".

2013 Sebring Spring Break Weekend Getaway Ride

May 10, 11, 12, 2013

Join us as we ride through the most picturesque countryside routes around Sebring, FL.  Looking for a great biking road trip you can share with your friends and family?  The historic Kenilworth Lodge is the perfect setting for all the after biking activities.  It's a relaxed weekend with bicycling and hanging out with friends!  Online registration is closed, but you can register on site in Sebring.

The annual Sebring Spring Break Weekend hosted May 10 - 12, 2013, at the beautiful rolling hills around the Sebring area has been a popular EBC event for over 15 years. Come and join us for a weekend of riding, eating, socializing and generally hanging out with your “newest best” friends before the heat of the Florida summer sets in.

The mainly flat to gently rolling terrain is a far cry from the craziness of urban Miami, the weather usually pleasantly warm at this time of year makes it a joy to be on a bicycle.

Marked and mapped rides of various lengths are available to suit all levels of ability, although the emphasis is on the longer rides (a metric on Friday, and the choice of either another metric or century on Saturday) which are supported with a rest-stop supplied with a variety of fresh fruit, energy bars, wholesome foods and of course, the ubiquitous Gatorade.

On-call SAG is also provided. Other shorter rides are marked and maps provided for the riders enjoyment whenever the urge takes hold.

The social headquarters is the historic Kenilworth Lodge. Providing a base of operations, from initial signing-in to the start and finish of all rides, also it will be noted that, lazy lolling in and around the pool, the imbuing of liquid libations and sometimes even worthwhile conversation takes place. Please reserve your rooms now to secure the coveted cottages, www.kenilworthlodge.com /(800) 423-5939.

A continental breakfast (which means nothing is fried) is available to registered participants consisting of bagels, cereal, coffee, fresh local (we are told) orange juice and other choice items.

After the rides, massages will be available to ease those over worked muscles, perhaps even legs, on both Friday and Saturday. On Sunday massage yourself, or each other.

THIS IS A FRIENDLY FUN RIDE EVENT SO DO NOT EXPECT TO SEE AN EVENT ORGANIZER ON DUTY 24/7 IN THE LOBBY. ALL INFORMATION CONCERNING THE RIDE WILL BE AVAILABLE IN THE LOBBY WHEN YOU ARRIVE. JUST BEFORE THE RIDE TAKES OFF EACH DAY SOMEONE WILL BE MANNING THE EVENT DESK AT THE KENILWORTH LODGE LOBBY. RIDE START - ALL RIDERS TO MEET IN FRONT OF KENILWORTH LODGE FOR PEDALS UP AT THE DESIGNATED TIMES.

When you arrive at Kenilworth Lodge on Thursday, Friday or Saturday, if no one is there in the lobby, we will leave the turn sheets for the various routes in the lobby.  Help yourselves.  Rides will begin at 7:45AM on Friday and 7:30AM on Saturday.  People will be available 6:45AM Friday and 6:30Am Saturday before the ride to register anyone who has not done so online and to any questions you might have.

So, bring the kids, bring yourselves, bring everything but your stress, come and relax on the veranda (porch) ensconced in one of the Kenilworth rocking chairs, review the day’s follies and foibles, make them up, tell giant untruths, (everybody else does) and let your cares and woes drift away in the company of your newest best friends.
